Korea is a haven of themed cafes! From the Hello Kitty cafe to Princess cafes, Hanbok cafes and even a Poop Cafe, you can find everything in Seoul. Today we are going to take a look at the capital’s best pet cafes.
The Cat Cafe
Cat Cafes have been around for a pretty long time, yet, they are still popular among locals and foreigners alike. The entry fees are around 5.000 KRW and for that you get at least 5 new furry friends. Most cafes have between 5 and 20 cats of different breeds. The cats come from super fuzzy to completely bald, pink and freaky!
It’s best to visit a cat cafe during the weekday, as during the weekend they might be quite blasé about you attention. They get spoiled a lot! They’re also cats, you can’t expect them to wag their tails and beg like dogs.
You can buy treats for the cats from the shop, they range between 1.000 KRW and 3.000 KRW. There are toys you can coax these lazy cats with into playing with you.
These cat cafes have rules. You are not allowed to pick up the cats, to pull on their tail or ears. Moreover, they also state that you are not allowed to hit them. I wonder why they even need to put that in the rules… Additionally, you are supposed to turn your camera flash off when taking pictures of them so as to not hurt their sight.
The Dog Cafe
Much like Cat Cafes, Dog Cafes are no longer a novelty in the world of pet cafes. You can find them everywhere! You can find cafes with big dogs, you can find cafes with small dogs and you can find cafes with medium dogs. If you find yourself in any of the Hongdae, Sinchon and Myeongdong areas you are bound to find one without even looking for it.
The pets are usually well taken care of, as most are pure breeds the owners of the cafes tend to treasure them, especially as dogs are very expensive in Korea. The environment is clean and they will most likely have pee pads in a room adjacent to the cafe rooms.
Like in any pet cafe you pay an entry fee, which will include a free drink. The drink menu will differ from place to place and based on the entry fee you paid. Most noteworthy in these places are the coffee drinks!
The dogs like treats themselves, and, to be honest, without a treat you don’t really stand a chance to get any attention from these canine companions. However, treats are quite cheap, varying from 1.000 KRW to 3.000 KRW – in case you find a special someone, haha.
The Sheep Cafe
Thanks Nature Cafe is a cafe where you can meet sheep. The sheep are super cute, furry and sweet. The place opened in 2015, which was the year of the sheep.
The sheep are well taken care of, they have clean bedding and food all the time. While this does not beat living in the Alps or in a natural surrounding it still is pretty good. They also have a little backyard with a tree and a deck for relaxing.
Meanwhile, can buy snacks for the sheep or you can feed them food that you’ve brought with but you must ask permission in advance. As for yourself, you can enjoy coffee drinks for around 7.000 KRW and waffles for 12.000 KRW. The waffles and drinks are both delicious so not only are you getting to see and pet cute sheep but you’re also in for some good food. You can also buy bread and sandwiches. We will not go into detail about the menu as they do have an English one.

The Raccoon Cafe
Proof that Korea is not afraid to be eccentric is the Raccoon Cafe in Seoul. The cafe is located near Sookmyung Women’s University Station.
There are two pet raccoons who are completely domesticated. There is a light one and a dark one. They are healthy, with full, shiny fur and full of energy. There are plenty of toys to coax them with into offering you attention. But nothing buys their attention better than treats. You can buy treats for these two cute rascals and they will beg like puppies.
The raccoons are kept in a different enclosure than the rest of the cafe. The cafe is quite big yet you have to leave your things and drinks behind when going to pet the little critters.
This cafe has a big menu! I’m not surprised people go there although there are only two pets. The coffee menu is the following: Americano, Espresso, Cafe Latte, Cappuccino, Vanilla Latte, Hazelnut Latte, Caramel Macchiato, Cafe Mocha, Dark Chocolate Latte, Mint Chocolate Latte and Sweet Potato Latte. The tea menu is Green Tea, Milk Tea, Chamomile, Peppermint, Rooibos, Lemongrass, Handmade, Plum, Grapefruit, Lemon, Bingsu, Mango, Coffee and Red Bean. Moreover, they have a variety of fruit juices: Tomato Juice, Orange Juice, Grape Juice as well as Lemonade and Grapefruitade. Next are Frapuccinos: Oreo, Extreme Dark Oreo and Green Tea.
However, the best part is that they also serve food. If you’re feeling a little peckish – they’ve got you covered. They serve individual slices of Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Opera and Chocolate Ganache. They also serve Ricotta Cheese Salad, a Bagel Sandwich, Cereal & Yogurt, Honey Bread and Oreo Bonbon. The items are listed in the order they are on the menu so feel free to use this as a translation if you find yourself there!

The Parrot Cafe 
The city’s only parrot cafe is located in Sinchon. The place is called Wanggwan House, which in translation is chirp-chirp. You will also find some finches alongside a few species of parrot. The owner of the cafe is a parrot breeder. If you wish to buy a parrot you can do it here. Moreover, you will also find bird feed, toys and health supplements for your bird friends.
Among the species they have are a Cockatiel, a Cockatoo, an African Grey, a Blue and Yellow Macaw. The birds are well-taken care of and it’s an absolute joy to spend a few hours among them. Bird lover or not, do visit them and learn some things about these gentle and intelligent birds.
The entry fee is 5.000 KRW and it includes a drink. However, the drinks are pretty basic, but after all, you are not there for a drinks, you’re there for the birds. The drinks they offer are: Americano, Light Americano, Espresso, Cafe Latte, Latte Machiatto, Cappuccino, Mochaccino, Cafe Mocha, Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Milk, Tomato Juice, Cranberry Juice, Apple Juice, Orange Juice, Grape Juice and Vegetable Juice – in that order.
